Michael Phelps Gets Eight Olympic Gold Medals

Michael Phelps 8 Gold Medals

After all the hype Michael Phelps eventually achieved the Olympic feat that no other human being as ever achieved, taking away Mark Spitz's record of 7 Olympic Golds in one Olympic games and stepping it up to 8! A worthy accolade for such a fantastic sportsman. Although it didn't go without a challenge, the 100m Butterfly was incredibly close, with Phelps winning by just one one hundredth of a second! It really was history in the making for Michael Phelps' Beijing 2008 Olympic campaign and fantastic to watch.

That's not to take away from the fact the whole of the rest of the worlds advancement in swimming. Swimming has really moved up a gear. Roll on London 2012!

Michael Phelps continues to dominate Olympics

Phelps wins 200m IM

Early this morning (GTM) Phelps broke another world record and won the mens 200m IM, the guys fitness levels must be through the roof!

It'd be very interesting for him to race after the Olympics when he's had a week off to see if he can swim faster. I usually found after a main event and some rest you perform just as well, if not better as the events you're competing in is like training itself, plus there is the added bonus of all the pressure being removed from your performances.

Phelps is now on Olympic gold medal number 6! So he is well over half way, with only 2 more Olympic gold medals to win to hit the golden 8!

Mens 100m Butterfly; I think this one will be a tough race for him as he's got Ian Crocker next to him who is very quick and seems to go along with the pace of Phelps.

It will be amazing to see 8 gold medals from one individual!

We (Team GB) have a Gold medal prospect in the Women's 800m Freestyle from Rebecca Aldington who won the Womens 400m Freestyle earlier this week! That's going to be one exciting race! Can't wait!

Of course the trace and field starts today, so an exciting weekend ahead!

Michael Phelps - 12,000 Calorie-A-Day Diet!

Michael Phelps Butterfly
"Eat, sleep and swim. That's all I can do," - Micheal Phelps. The "greatest Olympian ever" revels that he eats up to 12,000 calories a day to maintain his training! That's six times the average intake of an adult male, although when swimming 80,000 meters a week you've got to fuel that body somehow!

The swimmer starts his day with a breakfast of three fried eggs, cheese, lettuce, tomato, fried onion and mayonnaise sandwiches, a five -egg omelette, a bowl of grits (an American dish, a thick maize-based porridge) three slices of french toast and three chocolate pancakes. That's just for breakfast!

Why not check out your ideal calorie intake or monitor your nutrition data with our daily calorie counter?

Phelps has got just 3 events left and 3 potential golds to complete the 8 gold medal haul! My money's on him to do it!

Nintendo Wii - Summer Athletics

wii summer athletics
Nintendo release the first Olympic instalment of their Wii games series tomorrow. It would have been very interesting and original for them to include more events utilising the Wii fit board within this game, and would have stood them head and shoulders above the rest of the consoles sporting this game, but unfortunately they haven't.

The game looks great fun and is released tomorrow (Friday the 15th August). I'm guessing the title for the Wii game "Summer Athletics" is like that as they probably don't have the rights to use the "Olympic" name in the title. Still it's obvious that this game is simply a summer Olympic Games Wii title.

I wonder if it'll actually get you fit? In it's fairness after a day spent slogging it out on the boxing in "Wii Sports" I was feeling like i'd actually had a few rounds boxing! So I think that there is something to be said for interactive games. It's not as good as the gym, but at least it gets you active instead of sitting in front of the TV doing nothing.

Below is a trailer for the new Summer Athletics - Nintendo Wii game and is available from tomorrow.
